National Yoga Month

Happy National Yoga Month!

Yoga has been a part of my life, in one way or another, since I was in high school.  I started a breathing and meditation practice without even realizing that I was practicing yoga!  What I found is that just taking a few minutes, I was able to take a step back from any anxiety or stress I was feeling to see clearly how to move forward.

As we go into fall, the season of harvest and celebrating the fruits of our labors, September feels like the perfect time to celebrate how yoga can transform our lives.  In 2008, the Department of Health and Wellness officially designated September as National Yoga Month. This annual observance is a great reminder about the benefits associated with yoga and an opportunity to explore our practice.

As Harvard Health Publishing points out, there are many different types of yoga. While exploring the boundaries of your body’s strength and flexibility (as well as your breath) will feel amazing at the time, the rewards extend well beyond the mat. Citing research, Harvard stated that regular yoga practice is associated with:

  • Reducing Stress
  • Better body image
  • Mindful eating
  • Boosts in weight loss and maintenance
  • Enhanced fitness
  • Cardiovascular benefits

We have all been through some crazy times in the last couple years.  It has reminded me how precious and fragile our health is – physical, emotional, and mental.  Our yoga practice strengthens all of these – our body, mind, and heart.

I invite you to take a few minutes to connect and notice how you feel in the body, mind, and heart.  If you are not sure how to start or need a little guidance, check out one of our complimentary audio meditations to connect, yogi tips on IGTV, or guided meditation circles.
