Preventing Injuries in Our Practice

When I first started practicing yoga I would hear teachers say, “listen to your body”.  I didn’t really understand at first. Where they speaking metaphorically? Was yoga going to release some wisdom filled inner voice? In a word, yes! The more we do yoga the more we start becoming in tune with the sensations of our body. We learn what feels “good” and what doesn’t. The inner voice whispers to us and says you can go a little deeper, or nope not today. If we begin to trust this inner voice we can avoid going too deep in a pose or we could discover something new in our practice!

The next time your in class try to quiet the noise in your mind and tune into your inner wisdom. Try and keep that as your intention as you move through your practice. Ask yourself, “what do I need in this exact moment”. Your practice can take on a whole new meaning when we listen to the answers we get back!
